Unilite attribute recent success to kickstart scheme

Unilite have had their best financial year to date. Fighting through the pandemic, the portable lighting manufacturer has seen growth in both B2B and B2C sectors. Some of this recent success can be attributed to the hiring of several new staff members through the kickstart scheme.

The kickstart scheme set up by the government gives a great opportunity for 16-24 year olds to get into work. The government initially funds a living wage for 25 hours a week for a total of 6 months. If successful through their placement, the employer can offer a full-time position to the applicant.

Through this scheme, Unilite have taken on several new employees and have also taken on many University graduates, giving the company the advantage of youth. One of these new recruits is Louie Lostitch who came through the kickstart scheme having previously studied Law at BCU:

‘Unilite has provided a holistic approach to managing the placement. Everyone has been friendly to work with during my placement.

I have gained valuable experience in product compliance, trade compliance, British standards and occupational health and safety. I have also been assigned research tasks during the placement due to the everchanging rules and laws relating to trade standards. I enjoy the work diversity and independence in my job role because it allows me to constantly learn and push my comfort zone.

The Kickstart placement has helped me develop practical skills in an industry I am interested in. I have also developed an increase in self-confidence since I started the placement.’

All new employees who have come through the kick-start scheme are enjoying the varied and fast paced life at Unilite. With their contributions, Unilite are planning for another record year in 2022.
